In a way, I was born into this. Immersed, in an atmosphere of creativity. Reared through the conversations, commissions and classes occurring in the family home. And from the moment I could by hammer or hand, I was a participant in the creative act of making. As with my wanderings through nature which came later, since those first steps I have known a wild delight in the presence of making.
From green wood work to cabinetmaking and a few villages’ worth of relief carved signs interspersed with: woodturning, silversmithing, metalwork and lapidary. A lot of mistakes, a fair few scars but most of all, a whole load of experiences and the learning curves that arise. Curiosity led me to pursue a deeper understanding of blacksmithing at the National School of Blacksmithing in Hereford in 2000 accompanied by evening classes in silversmithing at Hereford College of Art.
Selection of older craftwork from previous years
Since then, alongside my own projects and bouts of building maintenance and renovations, I’ve worked across various engineering disciplines in the Oil, Gas and Renewables sector to structural steelwork within civil engineering. It’s been an interesting journey including projects as infamous as the MV Glen Sannox to others, little unheard both locally and internationally.
Industry has helped hone and focus the role and place of craftsmanship and creativity in my life. Since 2020 with a camera in hand I’ve been savouring being outdoors as much as possible. Exploring lesser visited corners of Badenoch and Strathspey amongst the wider Cairngorm National Park until moving to Sutherland in 2025. Where I am now finding my feet and creative projects are once more the central to daily life.
The natural environment, the wilderness of its boundaries and the intrinsic web of creatures, plants and elements. Even ourselves, our psyche and the stories, myths and folklore engrained within, Nature is the window from which I explore and am moved to create.
Over the coming weeks I’ll be completing the planned website revisions including launching an online shop. So please check back over October 2026 as this develops and missing links and pages are published.
